Living with a stoma – Bookings now open for Healthwatch Northumberland next online talk 8 August 2025 at 1pm

August 8 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

We are now taking  bookings for our next online monthly talk which is given by Colostomy UK on Understanding Life With a Stoma.

Shauna Hemphill from Colostomy UK will explain what a stoma is, why someone might need one, and the different types of stomas. She will also explore the wide-ranging impacts that living with a stoma can have—not just physically, but emotionally and socially to tackle misconceptions and stoma stigma.

We hope to be joined by a Colostomy UK volunteer with lived experience to share their journey and experiences living with a stoma.

Colostomy UK supports health and social care professionals to improve the experiences of people living with a stoma in those settings, and improving overall care. This ranges from resources, training, and working collaboratively to improve support.

The talk is aimed at both professionals and the general public and there will a chance to ask questions after the talk.
