From August 2022 – August 2024, the sanction rate for the North East stood at 9.9% – the highest region in the country. Since late 2021, the number of sanctions has surged, with 91.3% stemming from missed work coach appointments. This table shows more.
We are joining all local Citizens Advice Offices in the region to research the impact of sanctions on individuals claiming Universal Credit, particularly regarding the barriers they encounter, with the aim to influence the regional Mayors transport policy and DWP activities.
This research is being carried out in the way of a survey which can be accessed digitally or by paper copy (links below).
This survey is for anyone who is claiming Universal Credit or has claimed Universal Credit in the last 2 years, not just those that have been sanctioned. If this is you, please help us with our research by completing the survey.
