Eco Fair Brings Community Together for a Greener Future
Last Friday, I attended the Ashington Eco Fair – an inspiring community event organised by Ashington Town Council. The event was made possible through the support of the Northumberland County Council (NCC) Climate Change Team and the Climate Change Fund, bringing together local groups, organisations, and residents with a shared passion for sustainability and climate action.
The Eco Fair saw an impressive turnout, thanks in part to the half-term break, which brought families, children, and local residents together to enjoy a day filled with activities, information, and inspiration. It was fantastic to see both adults and young people engaging with stalls, learning about local initiatives, and celebrating the community’s efforts toward a greener, more sustainable future.
A strong VCSE presence contributed to the diversity of the event. Represented organisations included:
-
Ashington WI
-
Climate Action Wansbeck
-

-

-

Visit to Border Links’ New Building in Berwick
Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to visit the new Border Links building in Berwick, where I was kindly given a tour of the facilities by Melanie Deans, Director of Border Links. The visit coincided with a community drop-in day, offering local residents and partners a chance to explore the new space and learn more about the wide range of activities Border Links now offers.
Melanie was keen to gather feedback on how the building can be best utilised, particularly in terms of collaboration with other organisations who may benefit from using the space. It was great to see such a welcoming and versatile facility that has the potential to support even more inclusive, community-focused work in the area.
