NGH Monthly Digest

The Future of Food
The next NGH event is on Saturday September 13th and we’d love you to come along and join us at St James Church Centre in Alnwick.

The theme for this event is one that matters to all of us – ‘The Future of Food’. You can find all the details in the Digest or follow the link below to see the Programme and book your place. We’ve got a short film, talks and discussion about the key issues, followed by a Bring and Share Lunch.

We’ll also be asking for your help to help create the first map of food-related projects in north Northumberland – shining a spotlight on community orchards, food banks, growing schemes, and education initiatives and hopefully helping them to connect.

We Need Your Help
NGH is at a point where we need more help to sustain the current levels of activity and bring in new ideas. It’s YOUR network and we hope that you’ll think about how you could get more involved in ensuring it’s an ongoing success.

NGH began nearly two years ago and much of the early work was done on an informal basis by a small Steering Group. Since then NGH has grown – membership has increased, we have a constitution and a bank account and we’ve received funding from Thriving Together Northumberland.

Now it’s time for our AGM – and that’s an opportunity to refresh the membership of the Steering Group. We will shortly be dropping down to three members of the team – so we’re asking everyone to think about getting involved.

We want the Steering Group to reflect both the geographic spread of NGH and the wide range of interests. So, if you’re passionate about any aspect of climate, the environment and sustainability help us make sure that NGH reflects YOUR interests.

It doesn’t have to be a big commitment – we know that everyone is busy. We hold Steering Group meetings once a month, usually for around an hour on Zoom. Getting involved doesn’t necessarily mean joining the Steering Group – if you’d prefer to work behind the scenes, that’s fine too.

There are opportunities to get involved in organising events, producing the Digest, managing the website and more.

If you’d like to have a chat about any of this, just email Northumberlandgreenhub@gmail.com. If you would like to be part of the Steering Group, make sure to let us know by September 6th, ahead of the meeting on the 13th.

And finally…
The next edition of the Digest will be published in September 2025. The deadline for items is Wednesday September 10th, although you can email stories, events, funding opportunities etc at any time to Northumberl…@gmail.com.
