Supporting neurodivergent children
Your essential toolkit for unlocking every child’s potential
Authors: Mel Green and Dr Poppy Gibson
Neurodiversity means that our brains are all different. At The Open University, we celebrate difference while also recognising that the right support can enable children who think differently to thrive in school and at home.
You may be a parent or carer and/or working with young children in an education setting. This toolkit provides practical tips and resources to help you support neurodivergent kids at home and in school.
It’s not a rule book and it’s not about trying to be perfect. Every child is different and every parent, carer or educator will have a different experience of neurodiversity. We hope you find these suggested strategies useful – because understanding children is the first step towards supporting them – and yourself – to thrive.
