In this year’s Director of Public Health Annual Report, Gill O’Neill looks at Northumberland’s rural communities and the unique challenges this brings in supporting the health of residents.
Annually, Directors of Public Health are statutorily required to produce an independent report on the health of their population and recommend actions to improve health and reduce inequalities.
Gill O’Neill said: “Each year, my Director of Public Health report offers an important opportunity to pause, reflect and guide collective efforts to promote the wellbeing of people in Northumberland.
“Rurality can shape how people access services and navigate daily life. It influences factors such as housing, employment, transport and education. This report invites us all to think differently and work together to help guide all our rural communities to become a fairer, healthier Northumberland.”
The report features a short film – https://tinyurl.com/mr2j9jyp – which brings to life some of the issues that our farming communities in rural Northumberland may be facing, and the work being carried out to support them.
