On behalf of the North East Combined Authority, Represent Women and WSP are running an important piece of research to better understand how women and girls experience safety when moving around the North East.
We are asking if you would be willing to take 15–25 minutes to complete a short survey, and, if possible, share it with women and girls in your networks.
Women and girls often experience travel and public space differently to men, and these experiences can vary widely depending on where people live, the journeys they make, the time of day, and personal circumstances. Local and community knowledge is essential to understanding what is really happening across the region. Hearing directly from women and girls who live, work and travel in the North East will help ensure that future decisions are shaped by real experiences, not assumptions.
The survey asks about feelings and experiences of safety across different types of journeys and modes of travel, including walking, wheeling, cycling and public transport, and explores how safety concerns may affect travel choices. Some questions relate to sensitive topics, but you are always in control – you can skip any question and stop at any time.
As a thank-you for taking part, respondents can choose to be entered into a prize draw to win a gift card. Entry is optional and survey responses remain anonymous.
If you’re able to, please also share this survey with others in your networks? The more voices we hear, the more robust and representative the evidence will be.
Every response helps build a clearer picture of where change is most needed and what could make the biggest difference for women and girls travelling in the North East.
Thank you very much for your time, and for helping to spread the word.
